Dear Vista Condor Family,

I am proud to continue serving Vista Condor Global Academy in the 2020-21 school year.  This school year will undoubtedly be unlike any other, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I am very proud of how well we adjusted this past Spring to remote learning without losing a single day of learning, while also maintaining rigorous daily instruction.

The 2020-21 school year will present its own challenges and opportunities.  At Vista, we are committed to continue preparing our students to become college and career ready as well as globally competent, regardless of the obstacles we may face.  In many ways, those obstacles will provide opportunities to develop grit and other 21st century skills to reach our ultimate goal.  No matter the setting we find ourselves during this school year (In-Person or Remote), we will continue to utilize our Vista Signature Practices, including the Workshop Model of Instruction, Educating for Global Competence, Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures, and Way of Council to meaningfully reach each and every student.

This year, as a school, we are also transitioning to Mastery-Based Learning, which will allow students to progress in their learning at their own pace.  There will be a large emphasis on “demonstrating mastery” over “completing work.”  When instruction is differentiated appropriately, students become agents of their own learning, and our teachers and support staff become more like a coach, and our students will benefit as a result.  This mindshift is crucial in reorienting us to our purpose: authentic learning and growth.

I would be remiss if I did not address our final piece to the puzzle at Vista: Social and Emotional Learning and Support.  While core academics play a prominent role and rightfully so, we must also nurture the whole child by developing essential skills, including empathy and resilience, while also ensuring strong mental health and well-being of everyone in our school community.

It is a distinct honor to serve this magnificent community; one that I don’t take lightly.  This community deserves nothing but the best, and that is my commitment to the entire Vista Family.  You will get my best every single day and I expect the same from you, because everyday is an opportunity to learn and work toward reaching our goals.  Let’s have a great year!

Warm Regards,

Dr. Collin Felch
